Danny - I loved your recollections about not knowing about football. I'm older than you (52) but had the same experience. My senior year of college (My degree is journalism) I tried to get a job at the Houston Chronicle, but the only offer I got was in sports. I liked playing sports as a kid, but have never had ANY interest in sitting around watching sports on TV or going to games (still don't). I have the same recollections of trying to learn about football, basketball, etc. After a couple of years of trying to get out of sports and into another department (ANY department!), I gave up and tried my hand at technical writing for the up and coming field of personal computers (this was around 1986). Of course, I found that boring, too, but that's another story!

Anyway, I totally related to your "what's the line of scrimmage?" comment and your co-reporter's placing of his head in his hands! Been there!
